The Intern in Germany Program (IGP) allows students to immerse themselves in a German workplace and gain valuable intercultural experience along with relevant skills for their careers. The program is particularly appealing to students who have studied the German language and want to take their linguistic and professional skills to the next level by experiencing German workplace culture and society firsthand. Internships last up to 3 months and are full time (between 30-40 hours per week). If the internship is required by your program of study to complete your degree, internships longer than 3 months are also possible.
To be eligible for an internship in the Intern in Germany Program (IGP), you must:
The program fee for individual applicants is currently 900 € and includes the following services provided by Cultural Vistas:
Additional Costs
IGP participants are required to purchase health insurance to cover their time abroad at a cost of 42 € per month of stay in Germany. The should have extra funds available for their airfare, housing, and food during the program, and any additional money for travel or other costs not related to the internship. Depending on the city in Germany in which you live, Cultural Vistas recommends a monthly budget between 350 – 600 € for rent and between 300 – 500 € for food and other expenses. Cultural Vistas cannot guarantee paid internship placements, and participants should be prepared to pay their own living expenses.
If you would like to take part in an intensive language course prior to your internship, you have the option to book an additional one-month course in a variety of cities. The language course costs 1,500 € per month, including housing during the course.
You should apply for IGP at least 8 weeks prior to your intended start date (12 weeks if you are required to obtain a visa in your home country to enter Germany). You may begin your application and return to it at any time to make changes before you have submitted it. Please note that you must click “Submit” when your application is complete for Cultural Vistas to receive it. Please feel free to contact us with any questions: info@culturalvistas.eu.
Step 1
Students wishing to participate must submit their online applications and all supporting materials by this date. Supporting materials should be completed and uploaded online and include the following:
Step 2
Following confirmation that your application is complete and fulfills all of the necessary prerequisites of the German Federal Employment Agency, Cultural Vistas will issue a work authorization form (Arbeitsmarktzulassung) with approval of the agency. This will be sent to you and your German host company directly.
Please note: most foreign nationals must apply for a visa for the duration of their internship at the responsible German consulate in their country of residence. You will need the work authorization form from Cultural Vistas prior to making this visa appointment at your nearest German consulate. You should not make any travel plans to Germany until you have received your visa.
Step 3
Once you have obtained your work authorization and (if applicable) your visa, Cultural Vistas encourages you to make all necessary arrangements, including booking your flight/travel, arranging housing, and taking part in our trainings on what to expect in German workplace culture.
